My favourite games

Well it's that time of year when we are expected to rank our favourite stuff from this year. Which is weird considering that 2016 has certainly been one of the most "interesting" years as of late. But less doom and gloom today, let's talk about my favourite games to come out this year, starting with:

5) Titanfall 2:

Ok, this one surprised me. As you may or may not know this game was unfortunately sandwiched between the two biggest shooter franchises. Battlefield and COD and so this game sadly under-performed, which is a shame because while I can't speak for COD, I enjoyed this game a lot more than Battlefield 1 (still a great game though). With a excellent campaign with some amazingly creative levels, a brilliant traversal system that was so much fun to use and an addicting multiplayer, this game was so much better than it needed to be.

4) XCOM 2:

Thanks to the fire emblem series, I discovered this amazing franchise as I played Enemy Unknown earlier this year. First of all I have to mention the MUCH improved customisation options with your indivdual soldiers alowing for much for varied appearences and you can even give them backstories, however there was less armour variations compared to the first one (no jetpacks or camo?). The enemy variaty however is also much more diverse with some truely annoying additions. Some things that annoyed me was the increased down time for injured soldiers, which was especially infuriating in the early hours of the game, the numerous bugs and gliches which sometimes broke the game and the frequency of timed missions giving you no chance to plan out an attack. Also the RNG elements were as bullshit as ever and at times drove me completely mad. Never change XCOM.

3) Inside:

Wow. Just wow. This game is disturbingly gorgeous, every scene is worthy to be used as a wallpaper, as well as being very memorable from being chased by dogs, to that underwater girl and especially the ending. This game also has superb puzzles while not partically challenging are brilliantly designed and added to this world. While you are told nothing about this dark and disturbingly grim world, it lets you come to your own conclusion and while the intial ending is anti-climatic and secret ending is quite interesting.

2) Overwatch:

Okay this was difficult choosing between these top two games as I loved both for different reasons. For Overwatch it was the sheer fun factor and replayability with over 20 different characters to play as, there is a lot of variation in the gameplay as each character is very different from the next. It also requires actual team work where if just one player isn't contributing to the team, it could cost the game. Out of all the games this year I have spent numerous hours with friends just having fun, and the great thing is you can choose whether you want to play for fun or for realzies. Just remember one thing, don't **** with Santabjorn.

1) Fire Emblem Fates: All three versions

After Fire Emblem Awakening become one of my favourite games of all time, my expectation were through the roof, and after having to wait over 3 MONTHS after it was released in America I finally got my copy and played the hell out of it. First things first, the pairing mechanic has had a massive overhaul making it a lot more balanced than it was in Awakening as well as the fact that enemies can also pair up. The level design has improved dramtically, making the gameplay far less repetetive, especially in Reveleations. Like XCOM this game has an RNG element to it but unlike XCOM it's less random meaning there is more planning as you move troops to counter enemy troops unlike XCOM were you fire and pray to god it hits. However even though the gameplay is much improved to Awakening, I prefer the characters in Awakening (not to same Fates has bad characters because it has some excellent characters). As well as child characters in Awakening have a reason to be in the game, while in Fates the reason given is pretty shit. That saying, this is still an amazing game and my favourite for this year. Chapter 10 on Conquest however can suck my *****.
